Meet Sue

Pellon: Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Sue: Inspiration is all around. I might be driving down the street and notice a convertible with Dad and Junior in the front seat and a big ol’ dog in the back. That might easily become a fabric, only the dog would be driving.

P: What does your creative process entail?
S: A project almost always starts as a doodle on a scrap of paper. I work on dimensions and color next. I work up a prototype, then onto the instructions and then a final project.

P: Why do you enjoy sewing/crafting/quilting?
S: It is simply a part of me.

P: Do you create mainly for satisfaction, gifts, art or any other reason?
S: It is 100% my job now. I started like most do, sewing for myself. I found I needed extra money after college graduation – a big recession at the time – so I sewed for craft shows. I gradually started creating my own patterns, then after 15 years of working two jobs (sewing and my real job as a software engineer), I quit my high tech, high paying job and started drawing cartoons for a living.

P: What tips or tricks learned through experience can you share?
S: We are human. Allow yourself to make mistakes!

P: When and why did you start sewing/quilting?
S: I’ve been sewing since I was 12. To me it is as much an artistic outlet as painting or music.

P: What inspires you to start a project?
S: Usually a deadline;).
