Meet Caroline
Pellon: Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Caroline: I love finding inspiration all around me: outside, in a magazine, on the rack at my favorite store, etc. I love seeing something and transforming it in my mind to be something completely different.
P: What does your creative process entail?
C: Everything starts in my head, then eventually makes it’s way onto my notepad/sketchbook. From there, I try different methods to find the final product. I am a definite believer in doing things more than one way, so trying out different things is always key!
P: Why do you enjoy sewing/crafting/quilting?
C: I love to use sewing as a creative outlet. I can get lost in finding the perfect pattern, fabrics, etc. for hours. I love the whole creative process and when the final product emerges just as it was in your head, it’s even better!
P: Do you create mainly for satisfaction, gifts, art, or another reason?
C: Definitely for satisfaction. I sometimes create for gifts, but I’m always nervous to give something I’ve made knowing that most people won’t appreciate the hours put into a single project!
P: What tips of tricks learned through experience can you share?
C: Like I mentioned before, I truly believe that everything can be done more than one way. Using this motto helped me learn to sew from nothing, by myself! I’ve never been formally trained (didn’t even have someone in my life that could teach me!), so everything I’ve learned to do has been from reading, watching, and a lot of trial and error. So my piece of advice is this: if something doesn’t work for you, try it a different way!
P: When and why did you start sewing/quilting/crafting?
C: I have always been a “crafter”, I guess, but I started sewing about 7 years ago when I received a sewing machine for Christmas. I was in college and just wanted something I could learn at my own pace and somewhere that I could let out some creativity!
P: What inspires you to start a project?
C: DEADLINES! Just kidding, sort of. Deadlines do help… but sometimes I just get something in my head and can’t shake it until it’s completed!
