Meet Anjeanette

Pellon: Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Anjeanette: I find inspiration everywhere. Typically, it is the way something makes me feel, that pushes me to create something. I may see a fabric that reminds me of summertime and I create from there.

P:  What does your creative process entail?
A: I always work on my ideas in my mind for a while before I do anything else. After I have mulled it over, I sketch it out. I have many notebooks full of ideas and the details I have worked out. They are usually just pencil drawings, sometimes to scale on a grid and sometimes just scratched out.

P: Why do you enjoy sewing/crafting/quilting?
A: It is a way to express myself. I have a need to make things. It is very satisfying to think of something, work out the details and execute it.

P:  Do you create mainly for satisfaction, gifts,art or another reason?
A: I create entirely to make myself happy. It is an artistic expression of who I am. I may give the item away or sell it. But I always make things to satisfy my need to create.

P:  What tips or tricks learned through experience can you share?
A: I think it is important to use the right tools. Did you know there is a product called a Turn-it-all to use when turning long tubes of fabric right side out? It is so much more simple than using a safety pin. Also, there is a lot to be said about good technique. Learn the right way to do something. Then you can make your own twist on it however you want.

P: When and why did you start sewing/quilting/crafting?
A: I grew up in Utah,where my brother, 3 sisters, and I learned to make almost anything from a very young age. For a few days at a time, during the summers or on weekends, we would stay with my Grandma and create. She taught us to paint, sew, quilt, garden and bake. We also learned a lot from my creative Mom! I was one of those kids who went to sewing camp in the summer, while my friends went to sports camps. My Dad is also very creative. He can draw beautifully, and gave me my love of photography.

P:  What inspires you to start a project?
A: Just like I draw inspiration from everywhere, my projects start for many different reasons. I may see a fabric that I like, one that I can’t stop thinking about, which might inspire a block that it would be perfect for and the ball rolls from there. Or, I may start with the simple need to create, and the project evolves from there. I always working through new ideas in my head and often say that I dream in fabric. It may take a few days or several years for a project to come to fruition.
