Meet Alyssa
Pellon: Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Alyssa Lichner: I have been a graphic web designer for 7 years, so I am highly inspired by the graphic design world. I am most inspired by mid-century, modern retro design.
P: What does your creative process entail?
AL: Most of my designs start as an idea usually when I am laying in bed trying to fall asleep, those ideas then get sketched out, and then illustrated, then prototyped, then usually into a pattern you can follow.
P: Why do you enjoy sewing/crafting/quilting?
AL: I absolutely love being able to take my background in graphic design and apply it to something tangible, that can bring joy and love to someone’s life.
P: Do you create mainly for satisfaction, gifts, art or another reason?
AL: These days I am doing a lot of designing, most of my finished work is turned into patterns, classes, or tutorials. Then the quilts, bags, and projects are used and enjoyed by my family.
P: What tips or tricks learned through experience can you share?
AL: One word, stabilize. There are two notions in my sewing room that I absolutely cannot live without, starch and washable glue. Usually people think that is slightly crazy, but believe me when you start starching you fabric and gluing tough seams you will save time and achieve much greater accuracy. This is also why I am such a strong supporter of Pellon® products, interfacing, stabilizers, all what they call the “Magic in the Middle” is so crucial to accurate, precise, quality projects!
P: When and why did you start sewing/quilting/crafting?
AL: I was taught how to sew by my Mother when I was in middle school, I worked primarily in web design for years and picked sewing back up in recent years, and have turned it into my business and passion!
P: What inspires you to start a project?
AL: I am usually inspired by my massive Pile O’ Fabric, which is constantly staring at me and asking to play!
